The Executive Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has been appointed the Chairman of the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention Central Coordination Committee.

The National Working Committee of the APC, in a memo signed by its National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, revealed that Uzodimma will chair the 73 man committe tasked with organising the party’s 2026 national convention.

” Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), H.E. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, will serve as Vice Chairman, while the Governor of Yobe State, H.E. Mai Mala Buni, has been named Secretary of the Committee.” APC shared on X

Top Members of the 73-man committee include the governor of Akwa Ibom, Governor Umo Eno, the governor of Delta, Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Enugu, Peter Mbah, the Governor of Ebonyi, Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Cross River, Bassey Otu, the governor of Edo, Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Borno, Prof Babagana Zulum, the governor of Ekiti, Abiodun Oyebanji and other APC governors.

The Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives were represented on the list by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu.

According to the Memo, details of the inauguration of the central coordination committee for the 2026 APC national convention will be announced in due course.

    Uzodimma’s Growing Political Fortune

Governor Uzodimma is fast becoming a central figure in Nigeria’s ruling party, the APC. The appointment is the second body, IMO, the imo governor is heading in the party, following his position as the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.

Uzodimma appears to be in the good books of the president and the ruling party, recalling that he has singlehandedly invited the last two presidents of the country, the late Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to Imo state.

On his home base, Uzodimma has pushed digital reforms and youth empowerment through the Imo digital city initiative and, currently, the Founder’s Dojo Imo Bootcamp. He also embarked on beautification projects, redesigning the popular Assumpta (Control) roundabout in the heart of the city.

On a political front, it is still unclear who Uzodimma would be fronting as his successor. His opposition in the state comes from the camp of the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, and his Peoples Democratic Party ally, Sam Anyanwu.

Uzodimma’s high leverage in the APC sets the tone for a higher political position at the end of his tenure as Imo state governor. Political analysts believe the two-term governor could be eyeing the Vice Presidential candidacy in 2031 under a prospective northern candidate.
