Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, completed three more road projects while adding five new roads to his development basket plans.
Prince Okey Kanu, Abia State commissioner for information, on Tuesday, disclosed the development in a public statement on weekly updates in the state, highlighting the newly completed roads among other significant events that occurred during the week.
The newly completed roads in the state include failed sections of the Akanu Ibiam – Ohafia road, maintenance of Eket street – Niger road through Calabar street in Umuahia, and construction of Wosu road – Abayi in Aba.
Kanu revealed that reconstruction and maintenance work are ongoing in 51 locations in the state, confirming the high volume of work ongoing.
Regarding urban renewal in Umuahia’s capital territory, the Commissioner revealed that the Otti administration is constructing a new roundabout by the government house gate on Library Avenue under its beautification project.
The administration is also planting trees along Library Avenue and Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard, adding to the vision of transforming Umuahia into a smart green city.
Agriculture and Food Security Initiatives
The Otti administration rolled out a couple of agriculture and food security initiatives to boost food security and upgrade the state’s agricultural sector. The Abia state government approved the establishment of a CSS-type large-scale integrated farming structure in the state, adding to its plans in the industry.

Earlier, 302 young Abia farmers underwent training at CSS farms in Nasarawa State. They are set to be redeployed back to Abia state to replicate what they learnt during their training, leveraging the newly approved CSS farming structure in Abia state.
Kanu revealed that about 80% of the trained farmers made good use of the training, upskilled themselves, trained others, and are set to repay the interest-free loans they received. He revealed that this crop of farmers will receive further support from the government.
The weekly update by the Commissioner included other developments in the state, including an aerial mapping of the Abia landmass and the unfortunate collapse of an uncompleted three-story building in Umuahia.
