Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, went on a road inspection of the Eberi Omuma, Obohia, and Ohanku Road projects, assessing progress firsthand and addressing pressing issues.
Otti engaged with the Contractors and stakeholders in the projects, pointing out his assessments on both the infrastructural state of the project and the pace of the ongoing job. The Governor also seized the opportunity to engage with the various communities the road projects were located in promising stellar work on the roads to be completed in no time.
At the Obohia road project, Otti and his inspection team noticed that the drainage system had been poorly channelled, resulting in localised flooding. He insisted that the drainage be redirected appropriately into the Aba River to mitigate future occurrences.
The Abia governor instructed the contractor handling the project to correct the slight error in order to put an end to the localised flooding that would likely get worse if not handled now.
The Governor tasked residents of the area to imbibe healthy habits and dispose of their refuse properly, as environmental health is a collective responsibility for all.
Otti appreciated the people of Abia who came out en masse to witness the road supervision exercise, stating that their presence encouraged him to do more for the people.
” I sincerely appreciate the overwhelming show of support from the people of Aba who came out en masse. Your encouragement strengthens our resolve to deliver on our commitments and build the future we all deserve.
The Otti administration has embarked on a series of road projects since coming to power in 2023. The administration has embarked on over 50 road projects since its inception, totalling, changing the landscape of the state.
Key road projects include the N30 billion 6.7km Port Harcourt Road reconstruction in Aba by Julius Berger, the 3.5km six-lane Ossah Road expansion in Umuahia, and the 5.5km Owerrinta-Umuikaa Road dualization.
Other road projects include the Aba Road and Jubilee Road repairs in Umuahia and Aba, contributing to local trade and boosting the state’s local economy. Completed road projects like the cemetery market road and Emelogu road, which are products of Otti’s direct labour approach.
The state also collaborates with the federal government to construct roads. A good example is the Port Harcourt-Enugu Expressway, which is being constructed with the partnership of the Abia state government and the Federal Government.
