Uzodimma’s Growing Political Fortune
Governor Uzodimma is fast becoming a central figure in Nigeria’s ruling party, the APC. The appointment is the second body, IMO, the imo governor is heading in the party, following his position as the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
Uzodimma appears to be in the good books of the president and the ruling party, recalling that he has singlehandedly invited the last two presidents of the country, the late Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to Imo state.
On his home base, Uzodimma has pushed digital reforms and youth empowerment through the Imo digital city initiative and, currently, the Founder’s Dojo Imo Bootcamp. He also embarked on beautification projects, redesigning the popular Assumpta (Control) roundabout in the heart of the city.
On a political front, it is still unclear who Uzodimma would be fronting as his successor. His opposition in the state comes from the camp of the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, and his Peoples Democratic Party ally, Sam Anyanwu.
Uzodimma’s high leverage in the APC sets the tone for a higher political position at the end of his tenure as Imo state governor. Political analysts believe the two-term governor could be eyeing the Vice Presidential candidacy in 2031 under a prospective northern candidate.
