Tracka, a citizen powered watchdog by BudgIT has reported a major discrepancy between a supposed N50 million construction of the Magistrate Court and High Court at Erho, Abraka, Delta state and the reality on ground.
A team of fact finders from Tracka visited the site of the supposed project. They found no new buildings or ongoing projects.
” N50m was reportedly spent on the Construction of The Magistrate Court and High Court at Erho, Abraka, Delta state in the 2024 Delta state Budget Implementation Report. We visited this facility and saw that nothing was done. No new construction or renovation of the existing facility.” Tracka reported
” We met with the court officials from both courts and they asserted that they have not heard of the project and nothing of such was done. The magistrate also told us that the current benches at the court were provided by the community.” it added.
The twin construction of the Magistrate and the High Court was contained in the Delta state’s 2024 Budget Implementation report. The expose by the tracka team points at a possible diversion of funds earmarked for the project.
” The roofs of some parts of the court are pulling off and the entire compound has been overgrown by bushes. We call on the office of Gov Oborevwori, the EFCC and the ICPC to look into this discrepancy and provide the public with details of this project.” Tracka Concluded.
