Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has said that anyone who claims to perform miracles should be ready to demonstrate such powers at the Amaku General Hospital in Awka.
He made the statement during a church programme where he spoke about the need to regulate religious practices in the state.
Soludo said his administration has taken steps against persons he described as fake pastors and bishops.
He noted that some have been arrested as part of efforts to clean up the religious space and protect residents from deception.
He maintained that claims of miracles should not remain in words alone, adding that those who insist on having such abilities should be willing to show them in a public and verifiable setting like a hospital.
“We’ve arrested fake pastors and bishops. Whoever wants to perform a miracle should come to Amaku Hospital,” he stated.
This development comes months after ANSG intensified a crackdown on native doctors in different parts of the state. It has led to multiple arrests over alleged involvement in ritual practices and activities linked to crime.
Infoeast recalls that security operatives under the state-backed Agunechemba outfit arrested a popular native doctor, Johnpaul Ezenagu, in Nnewi.
He was accused of promoting rituals and encouraging youths with promises of quick wealth. He was also linked to alleged violations of the state’s security law.
During the operation, security agents searched his residence as part of ongoing investigations into his activities.
The government said the move was part of efforts to reduce cases of fraud and ritual-related practices. The case of criminal influence among young people is also a problem.
In another operation, additional native doctors were arrested in different parts of the state over similar allegations. The arrest follows claims that they were preparing charms for criminal activities and misleading residents with false promises of wealth.
The state government said the clampdown is part of its wider security strategy. It is also aimed at cleaning up the system and discouraging practices that contribute to crime and social unrest.
