The Abia state Government, under the leadership of Alex Otti, raised N3.4 billion for its Security Trust Fund.
Despite the giant figure, the state governor reiterated that the state was largely peaceful. Otti said this during the launch of the security fund in Umuahia, the state capital, while appreciating the residents and the security outfits in the state.
“Insecurity creates economic and social crisis, impoverishes the population, and makes refugees of individuals and families in their homeland.
”All of us are invited continually to take more than a passing interest in security issues in our neighbourhoods, places of business, and the larger community. Otti said.
The governor recounted that his manifesto included security, and his assumption of office ensured that security was top priority in the state.
The fund was endorsed by top politicians and legislators in the state on its launch and signing. The representative for Aba federal constituency at the National Assembly, Alex Ikwuecheghe, the labour and employment minister of state, Nkeiruka Onyejiocha, and the former Minister of Mines and Steel, Uche Ogah, endorsed the fund at the occasion.
Obiamaraije Stanley, the fund’s chairman, stated that it was set apart to raise resources to support security agencies in the state.
