The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, joined the George Moghalu campaign train, leading the campaign through Awka North and South as the Member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency. Prof. Oby Orogbu commissioned projects in Achalla and Okpuno.
The campaign trail was a star-studded one featuring Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the Governorship Candidate, Dr. George Moghalu, the Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro, and the Member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Prof. Oby Orogbu.
The Labour Party delegation was welcomed by the traditional rulers of the communities, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Ositadinma Nwokedi of Achalla, and HRH Eze Ugonwanne, Dr. Sir M.C. Ngene (JP), the Ezeike IV of Nibo.
Obi, during the campaign outreach, vouched for the leadership of George Moghalu and his Vice, Ifeoma Okaro. “George will work, and his deputy, an educationist, will ensure that our schools and hospitals receive the attention they deserve,” Obi said.
Speaking at the event, Moghalu decried the sorry state of infrastructure in Awka North and the absolute lack of government presence in the zone.
“The roads in Achalla are scandalous, and no community should be this forgotten despite huge allocations from the federal government. Awka North receives over 300million monthly, yet there’s nothing tangible to show for it.” Moghalu stated.
The Labour Party flagbearer urged the people of Awka North to register their discontent through the polls and not to fall into the trap of selling their votes for peanuts.
Prof Lilian Orogbu lamented the state of Achalla, stating that it was shameful that an important part of the capital city was in this condition. She recalled several constituency projects she personally attracted, including the reconstruction of classrooms at Community Secondary School, Achalla; renovation of rural health centres; and installation of solar-powered streetlights.
Orogbu marked off the campaign outreach by leading the delegation to commission the newly renovated Community Primary School, Okpuno, one of her constituency projects aimed at improving learning environments for pupils.
