The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, donated N15 million to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Dental Students Association in response to an appeal by the Association for funds to upgrade its facilities.
Peter Obi announced the donation on his X platform, sharing his perspective on how Nigerian leaders should spend money to impact society positively.
The Association appealed to the Labour Party leader for N40 million in donations to upgrade their laboratory and scale up the department’s graduation and induction quota as part of their re-accreditation process. Obi responded with a N15 million Donation to the Association, reiterating his commitment to advance education and healthcare in the nation.
“As part of my unwavering commitment to advancing education and healthcare in our dear nation, I made a modest donation of ₦15,000,000 to the University of Nigeria Dental Students Association to assist in their continuous education as students of the medical and dental department of the school. Obi Said.
The former Anambra governor questioned the quality of Nigerian society, particularly how leaders handle public funds and what they spend them on. Obi painted a picture of public servants spending lavishly while critical areas of development, health, education, and pulling people out of poverty are overlooked.
He called for an urgent prioritization of education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation, ahead of white elephant projects like bogus conferences and bus parks.
Peter Obi has donated over ₦300 million to Nigerian schools in the last two years. Notable contributions include N15 million to the UNN Dental Students Association, N10 million to St. John Vianney Science College, and N60 million to Anambra institutions. Obi’s school funding programs focus on infrastructure upgrades and accreditation support to enhance learning environments and boost education in the State.
The Labour Party leader, at a political rally last week, emphasized that he is still a member of the Labour Party despite his participation in the African Democratic Congress Coalition.
He urged Anambra people to vote for George Moghalu of the Labour Party in the November 8 gubernatorial elections in the State.
