The Second Aba Trade Fair came to an end following an official sign-off by the Abia state governor, Alex Otti.
Otti represented by his Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, declared the week-long event closed and appreciated all participants and shoppers who took advantage of the fair, which was promoted to boost Abia state’s local economy.
” It gives me great pleasure to stand before you on behalf of his excellency, the executive governor of Abia State, to officially declare the second Aba International Trade Fair closed, Emetu Said.
The deputy governor extended his gratitude and appreciation to all participants who traded at the fair. The trade fair is an economic initiative aimed at boosting Abia’s local economy and encouraging the sale of Made-in-Nigeria products.
Aba is the commercial capital of Abia state, with various manufacturing hubs producing quality homegrown products. The city is famous for textiles, leather, and shoes, as well as industrial tailoring.
The Alex Otti administration is driving urbanisation in Aba by leveraging a steady power supply, international and local partnerships, and fundamental reforms in education and youth development.
The Geometric power plant Aba, a 20-year project, was completed last year, providing a steady power supply to parts of Aba and Abia state. The Project, partly funded by Afrexim Bank, is an excellent example of state-backed intervention in the energy sector, spurring other states in the region to follow suit.
For example, in Imo State, under Hope Uzodimma, the state initiated the establishment of the Orashi Electricity Company, a state-owned electricity project aiming to rival the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company for market share in the state.
Alex Otti is already making moves ahead of the 2027 general elections, where he faces opposition by the All Progressives Congress in the state, led by the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
His administration has been characterised by a massive revamp of road infrastructure and solid gains in the state’s power sector. Otti remains in the Labour Party despite a current realignment trend among other southeast leaders toward the ruling APC.
