The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has secured the Labour Party gubernatorial ticket with a sweeping 368,230 votes.
The development follows the party’s primaries, which took place yesterday, the 30th of May. The primaries were for the 2027 Governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly positions.
Otti, in an X post, shared his recap of the event, showing appreciation to all party delegates and Ndi Abia who participated in the primary elections.
” Yesterday, the Labor Party in Abia State successfully conducted its primary elections for the 2027 Governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly positions. I am humbled to have emerged as the Governorship candidate with 368,230 votes.” Otti said.
” I sincerely thank the Labour Party Election Primary Committee, INEC officials led by the Abia State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Sylvia Agu, and our party leaders for ensuring a peaceful, transparent and rancour-free process. Am also congratulating all our candidates who emerged across the State.” He added.

Otti told Ndi Abia and Labour party supporters that the end of the primary marks the beginning of real work for the party. He stated that party members must fight, compete, and solicit votes.
He added that elections are for service and responsibility, and at the end, only the best candidate will win.
” I urge all our candidates and supporters to reach out to Abians everywhere, both within and outside the party, so that together we can build a stronger Labour Party and deliver greater progress for our State and Nigeria,” Otti concluded.
As the flagbearer of the Labor Party, Alex Otti is up against the All Progressives Congress. The APC selected Eric Opah as its flagbearer for the gubernatorial polls. The Abia State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure is very weak, almost non-existent.
This means that the 2027 Abia gubernatorial polls will be a two-horse race between the Labor Party and the APC. Political analysts believe Otti is still the clear favorite. Hence, the APC’s decision to field a virtually unknown figure with no political base.
The APC party in Abia state is led by the Deputy Speaker, Hon Benjamin Kalu. He is currently focused on his reelection run to the green chambers next year.
