Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has received a free nomination form from the National Working Committee of the Labour Party ahead of the next elections.
The form was presented to the governor in Abuja by the party’s National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, during a meeting at the Abia State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro.
Otti expressed gratitude to the party leadership for the gesture. He also thanked the National Secretary, Obioma Iheanacho, as well as other members of the National Working Committee, for their support and confidence in him.
The governor said he remains committed to the growth and progress of the Labour Party and promised to continue supporting the party in every way possible.
He also praised the leadership of Senator Usman, saying the party had moved past the internal problems and legal disputes that had affected it in the past.
According to him, the Labour Party is now in a stable position ahead of the next general elections. He added that all court matters and legal issues involving the party have been resolved.
Otti also appreciated the people of Abia State and the supporters of his administration. He says their encouragement continues to motivate him in governance and public service.
He added that the journey ahead would continue with fresh determination and a stronger commitment to serving the people. Otti remained in the Labour Party despite the exit of Peter Obi, his main ally in the party.
Otti rode the victory in 2023 on the back of the Peter Obi Wave. He ended a nearly 24-year grip on power by APC-leaning forces in the state. His first tenure has been marked by road infrastructure and global partnerships, as well as robust electricity infrastructure and supply.
In 2027, he is up against the APC machinery in his state. The APC is led by the current Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu. He has organic support from the association of past governors as well.
Otti will rely on his massive organic support and national appeal to secure his reelection. The banker-turned-Governor will be up against the federal might of the ruling APC party. This will be alongside a badly tainted judiciary. Then an election Umpire rumoured to be in the pockets of the ruling party.
