Senator representing Abia North. Orji Uzor Kalu visited the Chairman of the GCL Group in China to pursue alternative energy deals.
The senator revealed discussions held with the group chairman centred on potential collaboration in Coal, Lithium and Power. Kalu described the three topics as key sectors for strengthening energy security and supporting sustainable economic development in Nigeria.
” I thank Zhu Gongshan, Chairman of GCL Group, for hosting me in Suzhou, China”, Kalu shared on Facebook.
” As leaders, we must continue to project our nation positively, build strong partnerships and attract investments that create opportunity for our people” he added.
Kalu reiterated his commitment to advancing initiatives that will contribute meaningfully to national development.
The Golden Concord Group Limited, also known as the GCL group, is one of China’s most powerful private energy conglomerates, specialising in clean energy and new energy materials.
The group was founded in 1990 by Zhu Gongshan. It is currently a global leader in the solar and hydrogen sectors. Orji Uzor Kalu, an astute businessman, already has a Solar manufacturing facility in his Hometown in Bende Local Government Area.
GCL, despite being a technology leader, has a historically volatile Stock due to the cyclical nature of polysilicon prices. As of early 2026, analysts are watching their Q1 earnings report to see whether their massive investment in Granular Silicon has successfully offset the global decline in solar component prices.
The quest for alternative energy in Nigeria follows market trends as many Nigerians look to go off-grid. Solar energy remains the alternative energy of choice due to its efficiency and relative affordability.
Kalu’s home state of Abia is fast becoming a model for other states in Nigeria in power generation. The completion of the geometric power plant in Aba, which powers a ringed fenced area, has brought 24-hour power to parts of the state.
