Senator Orji Kalu, the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District and former Governor of Abia State, established a new Solar manufacturing factory in his hometown, Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
The Senator speaking at the foundation ceremony of the factory – Igbere Renewable Energy Ltd, emphasized the need for a focus on sustainable technology for the sake of the climate, and for creating jobs for the youth.
“This project is not just about producing solar panels. It is about generating hope, creating jobs, and contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s transition to clean energy,” Kalu stated.
“Our people deserve access to sustainable infrastructure and economic opportunities. With this factory, we are building both.” He added.
The new solar factory adds to Abia State’s industrial capacity, seeking to meet Nigeria’s rising energy needs while creating jobs for the local economy.

Additionally, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex socio-political youth organization in the South East, lauded the new solar factory in Igbere, commending Senator Kalu for what they called a visionary and transformative project.
The coalition, in a statement signed by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, described the project as a landmark project poised to kickstart the sustainable technology journey of the South East.
“This solar factory marks a significant milestone not only for Abia but for the entire South East and South South regions,” the statement read.
“It reflects a shift towards clean energy, job creation, and economic diversification. Senator Kalu has once again demonstrated leadership that aligns with the needs of the people. The statement added.
Senator Kalu’s Solar panel project aligns with Governor Otti’s push for an increase in power generation and distribution in the state.
