The Nigerian Optometrists Association (NOA) hosted its 48th Annual Conference and national elections in Abia state, meeting Governor Alex Otti.
Dr. Chimezirim Anderson, NOA president, acknowledged the transformational progress in Abia under Governor Otti’s leadership. He also appreciated including its members in key positions, including Dr. Maureen Aghukwa (Commissioner for Women Affairs) and Dr. Betty Emeka-Obasi (Eyecare Bureau Administrator).
While meeting with the Abia Governor, the Association requested land to build a regional NOA office in Abia.
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, met with a delegation of the NOA and thanked them for hosting their 48th Annual Conference and National Elections in Abia State. The Governor extoled the theme of the conference. “Optometry in a Changing World” was timely and assured the Association of his continuous support.
He urged the Association to explore Aba, the state’s commercial hub, for opportunities and insight before they depart the state.

Otti mentioned the establishment of the Abia State Eyecare Management Bureau as a significant progressive effort in the state’s health sector by his administration. According to him, the bureau, unique to the state, oversees free screenings, treatments, and eye surgeries for thousands of residents across all 17 LGAs.
The Governor pledged to support the legislative process that seeks to decentralize the National Vision Centre and also agreed to allocate land to the Association to build a regional office as requested.
In response to the Governor, Dr Betty Emeka-Obasi thanked Otti for transforming Abia into a state that now hosts national events. She said over 1000 members are currently in the state, and all hotels are booked to the brim, stimulating the local economy.
