Moniepoint, a fintech company, has announced a N3 billion plan to establish innovation hubs in three Nigerian federal universities over the next three years.
The goal is to support the growth of technology skills and prepare more students for work in the digital sector.
The innovation hubs will be established at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU).
The company said the selection was made to spread opportunities across different parts of the country instead of focusing only on major cities.
The project was launched at OAU in Ile-Ife, Osun State. The Vice Chancellors of the three schools, students, alumni, and members of the tech community gathered for the event.
Moniepoint explained that each hub will operate as a training center for students across different fields of study.
The programs will include software engineering, artificial intelligence, data science, robotics, product design, and entrepreneurship. Students will be trained through structured learning groups, mentorship, and practical projects linked to real industry needs.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of Moniepoint, Tosin Eniolorunda, said the initiative aims to build a strong base of skilled technology workers in Nigeria.
He said the company is drawing on the experience of Nigerian universities. The CEO also said that they aim to help develop more talent that can compete in the global digital space. He also noted that the project may later expand to other institutions.
The Vice Chancellor of OAU, Professor Adebayo Bamire, described the partnership as one that will improve learning. It will also expand the range of what students can achieve academically and professionally.
Beyond setting up the hubs, Moniepoint said it will also support learning materials, mentorship, and internship opportunities. It will also provide access to its engineers and business experts for students in the program.
The company added that the project builds on earlier education support efforts. This includes a CAD/CAM laboratory at OAU and a developer training program at the University of Lagos. This has produced hundreds of young tech talent annually.
