The Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Anambra state, Dr George Moghalu, has promised to end the infamous Aka Odo outfit in the state as soon as he is elected governor of the state.
Moghalu made this call on Sunday as the Anambra State Town Union Association, Aba Branch, hosted the Labour Party Governorship Candidate, as the politician continues his campaign trail.
The former Nigerian Inland Waterways (NIWA) boss lamented the disturbing situation of the Akaodo outfit in the state, stressing their continuous extrajudicial activities and extortion of traders and transporters in the state.
“It is only in Anambra that they use Aka Odo to collect all manner of illegal levies. That will stop within one hour after my swearing-in.” Moghalu stated.
The Labour Party man hinted at Anambra’s security situation, stating that the state was listed as one of the most insecure states in Nigeria. He stated that his administration will prioritize safety, restore public confidence, and bring back confidence and accountability in leadership.
Speaking on his chance of winning the election, Moghalu reaffirmed his commitment to equity and zoning. He argued that four years is enough time for a governor to deliver dividends of leadership, shading his rival and the incumbent governor of Anambra state.
“I am a beneficiary of zoning, and I will uphold it. Four years is enough for any serious-minded leader to deliver,” Moghalu stated
The Labour Party candidate hailed Abia governor, Alex Otti, as an example of what purposeful leadership can achieve in four years. Moghalu pointed out the massive road construction, urban renewal, and civil service reforms by the Otti-led adminstration as an example of what he intends to do in Anambra state.
He called on Ndi Anambra to join hands with him to return great leadership and restore Anambra state to a greater status.

- The Akaodo outfit joins the ranks of other state-backed informal security or tax agencies set up by various administrations in Anambra state in the past.
- A common denominator with these outfits is the abuse of power and extrajudicial activities, usually carried out by their members, who are often poorly trained and operating under no clear set of rules.
