The Gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Anambra, Dr George Moghalu, has promised robust agricultural reforms and revolution in the Anyamelum Local Government, lamenting the poor utilisation of the vast arable lands of the region.
Moghalu announced this during his campaign visit to Omor, Anaku, Umumbo, and Umuolum in the local government area as his recovery agenda campaign hits more rural communities in Anambra.
The former NIWA boss was welcomed by traditional rulers, farmers, Youth, and women of the community as he urged them to play their part in recovering Anambra by voting for the Labour Party in the coming polls. Moghalu reiterated that Anyamelum LGA remains the backbone of Anambra’s agriculture and it’s the rightful candidate to lead the march for sustainable food security in the state.
Moghalu described the state of the roads in Anyamelum as a tragedy, drawing a straight line from the poor state of roads to the underutilisation of the vast arable lands of the region, and the historic Omambala River.

He pledged to fix issues like poor roads, flooding, lack of processing facilities and infrastructure, which have plagued the region and continue to deny the area from reaching its full potential.
Dr. Moghalu declared that his mission is to restore the pride of the state through inclusive governance, economic revival, and social justice.
“Anambra must feed itself again. Our farmers must be supported, our roads must be rebuilt, and our elders must be cared for,” he said.

- Anyamelum Local Government is known for its agricultural capacity, vast arable lands, and the Omambala River, which is often used as a means of irrigation. The communities in the LGA are historically agrarian and contribute heavily to the overall production in Anambra state.
- Dr Moghalu’s campaign strategy, which involves engaging the grassroots population in Anambra state, seeks to build a political base by directly engaging with rural communities in the state. This has been a success so far.
