The gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party, Dr George Moghalu, has laid out his plans for urban regeneration of Anambra State if elected governor of the state in November.
Mogahlu, who leads a restoration agenda campaign theme, explained that he will invest substantially in Anambra’s major cities, particularly Onitsha, Nnewi, and Awka, pushing for a more urbanized aesthetic and development in them.
Speaking on Onitsha, Moghalu stated that his administration would invest in a waterfront to attract tourism to the commercial city. He believes tourism is an effective revenue earner for the state coffers and should be explored.
The Labour Party man added that he will bring back nightlife to the thriving city and embark on major rehabilitation of its internal roads to ease the movement of residents in the city. For added aesthetics, Moghalu plans on planting trees and installing street lights in key areas of the state.

On Education, Moghalu stressed his plans to rehabilitate the long-abandoned Onitsha Library and equip it within his first 100 days in office. He also noted that Business training institutions like Onitsha Business School will not only receive government support, but more such institutions will be encouraged and established.
On sports, the Labour Party candidate promised to fix the issue of litigation challenges disrupting the full functioning of the Onitsha Sports Club. He also promised to remodel the Chuba Ikpeazu stadium through a public-private partnership model.
Additionally, Moghalu touched on the issue of commerce, noting that his administration would put an end to the Monday sit-at-home exercise and mitigate the challenge of touts in the state.
