The Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, is set to distribute 20,000 personal computers to civil servants in the state while establishing food and nutrition units in carefully selected ministries in line with the national food policy.
The commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister LLoyd Ekweremadu, the commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr Malachy Agbo, and the Head of Service, Dr Godwin Anigbo, disclosed this while briefing reporters after the state executive council meeting at the weekend.
According to them, the new food and nutrition units set up by the government aim to fulfil the administration’s promise and mandate to fight poverty through food security.
Selected ministries, departments, and Agencies for the program include the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Budget and Planning, the Ministry of Trade, Investment, and Industry, the Ministry of Information and Communication, the Ministry of Human Development and Poverty Eradication, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro Industrialisation.
Ekweremadu added that the selected ministries are key as the Enugu government seeks to provide free meals at the Smart Green Schools across the state.
Meanwhile, Godwin Anigbo, the state head of service, stated that the Mbah-led administration is on track to distribute 20,000 personal computers to 20,000 civil servants in the state. He added that the initiative will fast-track the digitization of the state’s public service into the digital age.
Anigbo explained that the government is interested in utilizing technology to address problems, emphasizing that the digitization process would enhance productivity in the civil service.
In other news, the Enugu state government expressed a heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing the first Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, from the Enugu North Zone.
Prof Simon Ortuanya, the newly appointed VC of the prestigious university, is the first Nsukka Indigene to be appointed to the position, marking a historic milestone for the University town of Nsukka.
