In an epic move, Enugu state governor, Peter Mbah, commissioned five new Enugu ultramodern transport terminals, a CNG Mass Transit Scheme, a Modern Transport management system, and over 80 new bus shelters.
The new transport terminals include Holy Ghost Terminal 1 & 2, Nsukka, Abakpa Nike, and Gariki transport terminals, marking a new chapter in Enugu’s transportation scheme.
The commissioning ceremony was attended with pomp and pageantry by top officials of the Peter Mbah-led administration. Mbah marked the event by taking a bus ride on one of the new CNG buses from Holy Ghost 1 bus terminal to Nsukka Bus terminal, paying for his transport.
In his speech, Mbah recalled the deplorable state of high-traffic areas, such as the Holy Ghost Junction, which was plagued by chaotic traffic and general disorder. He also recalled that from day one of his administration, he promised to set up a world-class transport system in the state, moving people, businesses, and communities while positioning Enugu as a model for modern governance.
” This is more than a ribbon-cutting exercise; it is a multimodal highway to the future that integrates road, rail, air, and waterways into one seamless, safe, and efficient ecosystem.’ Mbah said
The Enugu governor remarked that the new transport scheme is already creating jobs and stimulating the local economy. The latest transport scheme is projected to inject 20,000 jobs, featuring BRT Hybrid Taxis, airport operations, ride-hailing, and support services.
Mbah thanked the Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continuous support of Enugu State’s development, including the concession of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport.
He also thanked the people of Enugu for the massive turnout for the commissioning event at the new transport terminals in the state, stating that their support and cheers inspire him to do more for the state.
The commissioning of the new transport terminals follows the launch of the state-owned airline Enugu Air last month, with three Boeing aircraft serving as the operational base.
