The member representing Ideato North/Ideato South federal constituency, Hon Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, would defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party’s internal crisis deepens.
Ugochinyere would officially defect from the PDP on January 7th, 2026, at St Peter’s field, Akokwa, in a live broadcast event titled “Exit Ceremony from PDP into a New Political Party.” The new party of choice remains undisclosed and would likely be revealed on the day of the event.
The ideato rep’s decision to exit the PDP continues the mass exodus from the party, which once held sway in Nigeria’s political terrain. The fragmentation of the PDP, spearheaded by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has led to mass exodus by members who no longer see a future with the party.
In a recent rally in his hometown of Ideato, Ikenga Imo lamented recurring cases of power abuse and direct sabotage of his political activities by the ruling party in the state. He narrated how the venue for his political rally was cordoned off on two occasions by state-backed forces.
The representative reiterated his commitment to continuing to engage with his political base and to providing direction for his people. He told his supporters that the time for action has not yet arrived, and they should count on him to provide direction when it does.
Before his successful election as a representative for Ideato North/Ideato South, Ikenga Imo fronted an active political advocacy career as the national spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).
Earlier on, he served as the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Youth Affairs to the former Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki.
Ikenga Imo’s defection follows the earlier defection of the governor of Enugu state, Peter Mbah, from the PDP, announcing a sharp decline in the Party’s fortunes in the South-eastern region.
