The University of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Oferekpe, Ebonyi State, has commenced academic activities despite parts of the University still under construction.
The tertiary institution is the latest addition to Ebonyi State’s growing profile of educational institutions. The Special Assistant to Ebonyi Governor (New Media), Leo Ekene Oketa, described the institution as the focal point of Ebonyi’s digital future.
” You cannot talk about the massive revamping of the education sector by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru without mentioning the University of ICT, Offerekpe. It is one of the administration’s boldest investments in the future, a clear statement that Ebonyi is preparing not just for today, but for the digital economy of tomorrow.” Oketa shared on X
” Established to position the state at the forefront of technology and innovation, the University of ICT is raising a new generation of software engineers, cybersecurity experts, data scientists, ICT professionals, architects, engineers, entrepreneurs, and other highly skilled graduates equipped for a rapidly changing world,” he added.
The university represents ongoing educational reforms under Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru. Last year, the Honourable Minister for Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi, paid a courtesy visit to Ebonyi State to inspect the ongoing work at the University.
Since then, the Nwifuru administration has advanced work, including building new staff quarters at the University. The University of ICT in Ebonyi is headed by its Vice Chancellor, Engr. Professor Ernest Ituma Egba, and it offers undergraduate, Pre-degree, postgraduate, and Work and Study Programs.
