A high-level delegation from the University of East London (UEL) International Office paid a courtesy visit to the Enugu State Government to discuss strategic partnerships and explore ways to facilitate international education for Enugu students.
The delegation, led by Mr Ambrose Nwodo, National Secretary, University of East London Alumni Network, Nigeria Chapter, deliberated on providing more higher education scholarships, facilitating robust academic exchanges, and increasing access to international education for Enugu students.
Other areas touched on in the strategic meeting include human capital development through world-class education and more scholarships.
Reacting to the meeting, Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah, reiterated that his administration is intentional about global partnerships that improve the quality of administrative policies and deliverables.
” In Enugu State, we remain intentional about building global partnerships that unlock opportunity, broaden exposure, and position our young people to compete effectively in a rapidly evolving global knowledge economy,” said Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah.
The development adds to the growing list of policies and initiatives implemented by the Mbah administration in the state’s educational sector.
Inside Enugu’s Effort to Upgrade its Education Sector
The Peter Mbah administration has earmarked Education as one of the sectors of focus for his regime. Mbah, a trained lawyer and businessman, embarked on an ambitious project to build 260 smart schools across the 260 wards in Enugu State.
The Enugu Smart Green Schools project is attracting significant attention and scrutiny, given that an infrastructure project of that size in education has never been seen before in the southeast region.
The smart green school initiative is a key capital project for the state, costing a whopping N260 billion. The project is not without its challenges; some Contractors have failed to deliver to the stipulated standard, prompting demolitions and re-awarding of these contracts.
A good example of such cases is the case involving Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited and the Enugu government, which is currently being handled by the EFCC. The CEO of Sujimoto, Olasijibomi Ogundele, was accused of defrauding the Enugu government of N5.7 billion and recently returned N1.28 billion of that amount.
UEL Alumni Network in Nigeria Punching above its Weight

The University of East London (UEL) Alumni Network in Nigeria has grown into a formidable force of professionals, entrepreneurs, and public leaders who are actively shaping the nation’s socio-economic landscape.
Nigeria, one of UEL’s largest international markets, is served by the network, which serves as a vital bridge for knowledge exchange and career mentorship between London and Lagos.
The UEL Alumni network, in a recent Achievement Awards, celebrated high achievers within its network.
Notably, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State and an accomplished maritime lawyer and energy mogul, received the Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award. The award recognises his leadership in public service and the energy sector as CEO of Pinnacle Oil and Gas, exemplifying the university’s careers-first mission.
Additionally, the network has seen a surge in academic and research contributions. Scholars like Dr Cynthia C. Umezulike were recognised with the Sustainability Award for her work in human rights and environmental advocacy. The success of the Unicaf partnership also saw over 800 Nigerian scholars graduate in 2025, many of whom have pioneered tech-driven solutions in pharmacotherapy and STEM education across Nigerian universities.
These achievements underscore the network’s commitment to UEL’s Vision 2028, focusing on health, sustainability, and the Industry 4.0 economy, while providing a robust support system for the over 100,000 UEL alumni worldwide.
