Call centres of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) are currently unavailable due to maintenance work at its physical premises.
This is currently affecting customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states. The development means customers will not be able to reach the disco. They are shut out of customer service for the meantime.
In a signed statement, the EEDC’s Group Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, regretted the development and apologised to customers for the inconvenience.
” The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform its customers in Abia (Umuahia), Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States that its call centre is currently unavailable due to ongoing maintenance work,” the memo read.
” As a result, the call centre lines are temporarily out of service. Alternative channels have been provided, and customers are encouraged to reach us via WhatsApp chat or SMS on 07074610088, 07074610095, and 07074609958 (no calls, please).” it said.
” The maintenance work is expected to be completed within the next 24 hours, after which the call centre will be fully restored. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause our esteemed customers,” the memo concluded.
The EEDC’s Stronghold on Southeast’s Power Structure
The EEDC is the regional body overseeing the distribution of electricity to the five southeastern states. Area of coverage includes Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, and Imo. The body faces stiff competition from state-backed electricity projects in Imo State and Abia State.
The EEDC inherited the southeast structure after the collapse of the national electricity utility, Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). Last year, the regional player made national news. The Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) reduced tariffs for Band A customers from N209/kWh to N165/kWh.
The development sparked a war of words between the EERC and relevant stakeholders. The dispute was over the projected price action and its impact on the region’s power ecosystem. The EEDC is partly owned by Anambra Business Mogul Sir Emeka Offor through his subsidiary, Interstate Electrics.
