The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), represented by Emmanuel Nwachukwu, won the Anambra South Senatorial Election, amongst other key positions in the state.
APGA’s Emmanuel Nwachukwu won the Anambra South senatorial seat with over 75% of the total votes, securing 90,408 votes. He was trailed by Chief Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 19,812 votes, and Donald Amamgbo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who received 2,889 votes.
Anambra state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, a key figure in the APGA party, extended his gratitude to Ndi Anambra for maintaining their trust in the party and going all out to vote for its candidates.
” Yesterday, APGA recorded a sweeping victory in the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election! With over 75% of the votes cast in our favor, we won 99.99% of polling units and all 118 wards across the 7 LGAs.” Soludo Said
He congratulated Emmanuel Nwachukwu for winning the Anambra South Senatorial elections and making history as the very first Anambra South senator to be elected in APGA since its creation.
Soludo also congratulated APGA’s Barrister Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe for winning the Member Elect for the Onitsha North 1 state constituency seat. Azikiwe defeated Justina Azuka, representing the African Democratic Congress, stopping her bid to inherit her late husband’s position.
Azikiwe polled 7,774 votes ahead of Justina Azuka’s 1,909 votes, securing a seat in the Anambra House of Assembly despite the backing and support given to Justina Azuka following the gruesome murder of her husband.
The Anambra by-election was largely peaceful, with few calls of disturbance and violence during the polls held on Saturday. In general, the state saw a low voter turnout for the by-elections.
The Anambra South Senatorial seat and the Member, Onitsha North 1 state Constituency seat were the only two positions secured by APGA following the passing of Senator Ifeanyi Uba and Hon Justice Azuka.
