The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) took a significant step in the run-up to the November 8 gubernatorial elections by inaugurating a 489-member campaign council.
The ruling party in Anambra State inaugurated the members this week and announced the development at the Soludo/Ibezim campaign headquarters. Prof. Soludo attended the inauguration event in person, along with his deputy governor and party supporters.
The inauguration follows the Soludo team paying the N50 million Anambra State Signage and Advertising Agency (ANSAA) fee for the license to use billboards, branded vehicles, and flyers, as well as organising outdoor rallies for campaign purposes.
The Anambra Elections are barely a month away, and key candidates are fully in campaign mode. Dr George Moghalu, the flagbearer of the Labour Party, took his campaign to rural Anambra, visiting Okija, Agulu, Umunze, Nawfija, and Onitsha in the past weeks.
Governor Soludo would be banking on the political history of Anambra in recent years, where APGA has always emerged on top, providing the state governor for the past 10 years.
War of Words
The executive governor of Anambra State often engages in a war of words with the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu. Governor Soludo often refers to the academic background of the APC candidate, dismissing his capacity and mocking his West African Examination Council (WAEC) results.
In a recent rally, Governor Soludo included Ukachukwu’s deputy Governor, Mrs Uche Ekwunife, in the trolling, claiming she bought her certificate from an illegal university.
The victory of APGA in the August 16th by-elections points towards a possible repeat in the November 8 gubernatorial elections. Soludo’s benefactor, Chief Willie Obiano, swept the polls in his bid for a second term. The APGA man secured a landslide victory getting the highest number of votes in the 21 local governments of Anambra state.
It remains to be seen if the current APGA governor can pull off such feat in the November 8 gubernatorial elections.
