The Anambra State Government has condemned the attack on the convoy of the Chief of Staff to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, describing it as an assault on the state’s peace and security.
In a statement issued on Monday, the government said the incident happened on Sunday night, May 31, 2026, between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the border between Orumba North and Awka South while the Chief of Staff was returning from an official assignment.
The statement was signed by Law Mefor, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, on June 1, 2026.
According to the government, the attack went beyond targeting an individual and affected the peace, security, democratic order, government, and people of Anambra State.
The state government confirmed that four people lost their lives in the incident. It expressed sympathy to the families of the victims and said those responsible must be brought to justice.
Authorities said the police and other security agencies have begun efforts to track down the attackers and ensure that everyone connected to the incident is arrested and prosecuted.
The government also described the attack as an isolated case. They noted that it came after more than a year of improved peace and security across the state.
It assured residents that the incident would not weaken its resolve to continue fighting crime and maintaining safety across Anambra. This is the first major security scandal rocking Anambra State in a while, highlighting the state’s much-improved security situation.
Anambra’s security architecture consists of the Police, Vigilante groups, and the Military. The Soludo administration employed a mix of state backed vigilantee groups and tax collectors. This is to oversee Anambra’s internal security and revenue collection.
Some of these outfits are criticized for highhandedness and unprofessional conduct. This has attracted backlash and blame from the general public and Ndi Anambra.
