The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced Okeke Chinedu Christian, an Anambra student, as the highest scorer in the 2025 edition of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with a total of 375 marks out of 400.
Jamb Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, revealed this on Tuesday during the organisation’s policy meeting held in Abuja. He stated that Mr Okeke Chinedu scored 375 out of 400, the highest score in the 2025 edition of the national examinations. The student selected the University of Lagos as his first choice with a goal of studying Mechanical Engineering there.
The second place went to Ayuba Simon-Peter John from Gombe State, who scored 374 and selected Afe Babalola University in Ado Ekiti as his first choice. He chose Mechanical engineering as his main field of study, as Okeke Chinedu did.
Following closely is Jimoh Abdulmalik Olayinka from Kwara State, who scored 373 and is also studying mechanical engineering. He selected the University of Lagos as his first choice and wants to study there. The top three candidates in the 2025 edition of the UTME exams are all males, featuring no females.
Runners up to the top 3 include Roberts Damiete with 373; Ononugbo Chigozirim, 373; Olawepo Gertrude with 373; Afinotan Leslie, 373; Azoyenime Samuel, 373, and Oyebode Oluwapelumi with 373.
Anambra has featured on the top candidates list in the JAMB examination for a while. The state has also produced students who have represented Nigeria in international competitions and won some global titles for the country.
Infoeast reported that the current governor of the state, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, is set to hire and engage over 8100 teachers in a bid to strengthen grassroots education in the state.
