Jude Ezenwafor, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), escaped near assassination after he was shot in Wuse 2, Abuja.
Sources said the assassination attempt occurred on Friday night. At the same time, the victim was returning home. The wounded politician and Real estate developer is currently receiving treatment in a private clinic in Abuja.
Ezenwafor emerged unopposed as the PDP candidate for the November 8 gubernatorial elections in the state. The PDP party in the state grapples with a dominant APGA party and a resurging Labour Party backed by Peter Obi, a key opposition figure.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that the police force in the FCT is currently unaware of the incident at the time of the report. PDP insiders disclosed that the incident might disrupt the party’s campaign plans as the election date draws closer.
The PDP, despite its past prominence and status, struggles with defections and internal conflicts, holding only one State Assembly seat. PDP members and Soludo Critics highlight Soludo’s infrastructure achievements but heavily criticize his record on Security and attracting Foreign Direct Investments.
The November 8 gubernatorial elections are a highly anticipated contest featuring Incumbent Governor Charles Soludo of APGA, who won unopposed in the party’s primary with 3,168 votes.
Governor Soludo is gunning for a second term, banking on his infrastructure achievements. The incumbent governor enjoys support from opposition party members and key stakeholders likewise. The PDP, led by Jude Ezenwafor, aims to challenge Soludo through grassroots mobilization, despite internal crises and defections.
The APC, with candidates like Valentine Ozigbo, and Labour Party’s George Moghalu also compete, though APGA’s dominance and Soludo’s performance make him the frontrunner. Zoning debates favor Anambra South, shaping candidate selections.
