The Anambra State government and its advertising body are facing public backlash over an outrageous N50 million Campaign permit for the presidential elections.
The previous administration is demanding N50 million from the current presidential aspirants, N20 million from Senatorial Candidates, N5 million from House of Reps members, and N1.5 million from House of Assembly members.
The monies will authorize and clear aspirants for outdoor campaigns, and the utilization of billboards for their political campaigns and rallies. Nigerians have reacted to this, calling it overkill, with some speculating that there are a few predatory policies targeted at a particular aspirant.
” You people are not even ashamed. I’m certain that all this is because of Peter Obi. For your information, he lives in our hearts, not on billboards.” A Nigerian X user reacted to the development.
” When Soludo was campaigning, who asked him to pay money? Una go just dey do nons£nse when you lose power, and the same energy that returns to you will start crying foul. What’s this madness about, and who are you pleasing by imposing this nons£nse? We will remind you one day,” Another X user reacted.
The criticisms are directed at Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo by Obi loyalists who believe the N50 million price tag is intended to curtail Peter Obi’s public messaging in the state.
As factual as that sounds, there is still no proof for that assertion. The Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA) is the state body responsible for outdoor advertising and political campaign fees.
ANSAA raked in N800 million from last year’s Anambra Gubernatorial Elections, a healthy revenue by all ramifications. At the time of the report, it is unclear whether the ANSAA was directly involved in this announcement.
