Governor Alex Otti has said he will not accept any award, chieftaincy title, or honour while still serving as governor of Abia State.
He made this known after a students’ union planned to present him with an award during the Abia State University convocation ceremony.
He explained that he appreciates the gesture but cannot receive it now because of a personal rule he set during his 2023 inauguration.
He recalled that he promised not to accept any form of honour until he completes his service to the people of Abia State. He asked the group to keep the award for now.
The governor added that if, after his time in office. If the students still feel he deserves the recognition, they can present it to him at that time.
He said, “I want to thank you for this award. I would have accepted it, but as I said during my inauguration in 2023, I will not accept any award, chieftaincy title, or honour until I finish serving the people of Abia State.
“I’m not rejecting the award, you can keep it for now. After I’m done serving the people of Abia State, if you still believe I’m worthy of it, then you can present it to me.”

Alex Otti’s political base has witnessed a strong boost following his impressive run as Abia State’s chief administrator. His first tenure has been marked by a robust performance in road infrastructure. Power generation and securing global partnerships for the state were also his forte.
His performance has led to a sharp turnaround in optics for Abia state, drawing nationwide commendations and appeals for Otti. The Abia governor is building on this momentum and is currently growing his circle of influence beyond his home state.
He was present at the book signing of the Minister of Defence, General Chris Musa. He also recently visited former Presidential Candidate Rochas Okorocha in his Abuja Home.
He is up against the APC machinery in his state, led by Benjamin Kalu, as he seeks Reelection in 2027.
