The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) was represented at the event by members of its Board of Directors – Dr Steve Dike and Barr. Kester Enwereonu, accompanied by the Group Managing Director, Engr. Praveen Chorghade.
MEDL was heavily represented by members of their management team. They include Chief Regulatory Officer, Uche Okala; Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Ikenna Akabogu. Other noteworthy attendees of the event include
Chief Technical Officer, Engr. Chimezie Chukwu, Chief Finance Officer, Mrs Mercy Ogbonna, and EEDC Head of Communications, Mr Emeka Ezeh.
Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) is a subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). MEDL is tasked with distributing electricity in Enugu state.
MEDL is the first sub-national utility in Nigeria to take over regional operations from a traditional DisCo.
This shift was enabled by the Electricity Act 2023, which moved regulatory oversight from the national level (NERC) to the state level.
At report time, MainPower remains a pioneer, focusing on smart-metering and local grid stability. While EEDC continues to serve Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, and Imo, MainPower operates as Enugu’s dedicated, state-regulated provider.
The EEDC inherited the South East electrical structure from the now-defunct PHCN after its disbandment. Key investors are Sir Emeka Offor of Chrome Group of Companies, who holds a significant stake in the business through his Interstate Electrics.
Another subsidiary of the EEDC, besides Mainpower Electricity, is First Power Electricity Limited. Firstpower Electricity handles Security and Asset protection for its sister company, the EEDC.
