The APC party in Southeast Nigeria adopted President Bola Tinubu as the consensus candidate for 2027 during the South East All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders meeting in Enugu.
The stakeholders’ meeting, which serves to organise the party in the eastern region and review its agenda for the year, brought together the entire APC political structure in the South-East of Nigeria.
The governor of Imo State, Enugu State, and Ebonyi State, Francis, attended the meeting. Members of the national assembly and the House of Representatives from the South-East region also attended the event. The deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, showed up late.
Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, and Former Governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, attended the event and shared the high table with the above dignitaries.
Imo State Governor, Uzodimma, reacting to the decision to adopt Tinubu as the consensus candidate for 2027, explained that the decision is grounded in confidence and a calculated approach with an expected measured outcome.
” This confidence is not rhetorical; it is grounded in measurable outcomes that continue to strengthen national resilience and investor trust. Against this backdrop, the APC South East Stakeholders Meeting held at the Hotel Presidential, Enugu, was not merely a gathering, but a clear statement of fact.
” Having been entrusted with the responsibility of piloting President Tinubu’s second-term election, the South East has demonstrated unity of purpose and a commitment to delivering victory for Mr. President at the polls,” Uzodimma said.
The stakeholders meeting by the Southeast APC also served as an avenue to thrash out pending issues and challenges facing the party in the region.
Anambra APC on Life Support, Calls for Funding
The APC party in Anambra addressed the meeting, revealing that it is facing severe challenges in the state and requires support. A spokesperson for the party revealed that its objectives are being stifled by a lack of representation in virtually all key positions in the state.
APC Anambra called for help and adequate funding to enable the party to be propped up in the state. It hopes to make Anambra the fourth APC party in South East Nigeria.
Other agendas raised in the stakeholder meeting include greater federal representation and a stronger federal presence in the region. The discussion also addressed the APC’s structure of unity and harmony across states.
Why this Matters
- Former Anambra governor and presidential candidate hopeful for 2027, Peter Obi, hails from the South East, and the region is supposed to be his political base. The serious inroads made by the APC in the region cast serious shadows on Obi’s ability to hit his 2023 tally of six million votes in 2027.
- The Southeast region, having three APC governors, spells a new political chapter for the region, which traditionally votes for the Peoples Democratic Party. Public acceptance of the party in the region still remains a question, but the prospects look bright, given the turnout at the meeting in Enugu yesterday.
