State-owned Airline Enugu Air is set to add Benin City to its destination routes, expanding its daily routes and bringing more options to its client base.
The airline run by the Enugu state government, in partnership with Xejet, is already flying major routes in the country, including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Owerri, and other major cities.
Enugu Air, launched this year by the Peter Mbah administration, is positioned to lead the aviation industry in the eastern region and, at the moment, remains the only state-backed airline in operation.
During its launch, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, narrated the groundwork that went into the airline’s approval and how Peter Mbah pressured the Ministry to grant a speedy license to the Airline.
He offered advice to the airline’s management, urging them to run a professional aviation service business and to avoid common pitfalls that state-backed airlines often make.
Enugu Air is part of a robust revamp of the transport sector in Enugu State by the Mbah administration. Aside from air travel, the administration also implemented an upgrade of road transport in the state, building five new terminals across major cities in Enugu.
This was followed by the acquisition of CNG-powered buses for mass transit in the state, aligning with the administration’s plans to turn the state into an urban centre.
