The people of Anyamelum Local Government are protesting against the leadership of Prof Chukwuma Soludo, two days before the Anambra Gubernatorial election slated for November 8th.
The protesters, mostly youths of the LGA, converged at the Anyamelum Local Government Secretariat, carrying placards addressing different issues, ranging from alleged looting of monthly allocation, overbearing neglect by the state government, poor roads, and poor electricity.
The protest leader, who appeared to also be the convener of the protest, questioned the absolute lack of government presence in the local government.
” We dont have roads, no electricity, no park. What did we do to the government ?. If we have offended the government in any way, they should tell us so we can apologise.” The Protest leader stated.
The leader of the protest dismissed the quality of the roads constructed by the Soludo administration in the LGA, referring to them as “Patch Patch” roads. He called on the Anambra Government to build quality roads for the community, which can last for 10 to 15 years, so the government can focus its resources on other things.
Speaking further at the protest, the protest leader harped on the issue of the alleged looting of the monthly allocation of the Anyamelum LGA. He stated that the community is willing to forgive the alleged lootings, provided it doesn’t continue.
Placards carried by the protesters portrayed interesting messages like ” Say no to Bad Governance” and ” Accountability is not an attack”.
The protests cast holes in the untouchable image the incumbent governor of Anambra currently enjoys, going into the Saturday elections.
