Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has announced that he has accepted the request from the people of Imo West Senatorial District to serve them at the National Assembly.
In a post on his X page, he said the call from his people came with responsibility, and he accepted it with humility and commitment to their progress.
The governor also confirmed that he appeared before the leadership of the All Progressives Congress and its screening committee for the National Assembly primary election process.
He said that the senatorial seat he is seeking belongs to the party. He then remains a loyal candidate working to promote the values and goals of the APC.
Uzodimma added that the party will focus on leadership that delivers development and democratic benefits to citizens across the country.
He explained that his ambition to represent Imo West is driven by his desire to support ongoing national reforms. He also hopes to build on the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope agenda. This will be done through effective representation and legislative work.
“My aspiration to represent the good people of Imo West Senatorial District at the Red Chamber is inspired by the desire to consolidate on the gains of the #RenewedHope administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through quality representation, effective legislation, enhanced development, and sustainable progress for our people and our nation”, his statement read in part.
If Hope Uzodinma wins the Imo West Senatorial seat in the January 2027 National Assembly election. He will be sworn in around June 2027. He will also have to leave his job as governor before his term ends in January 2028.
That means he will leave office about six to seven months early. If that happens, his deputy, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, will become the Governor of Imo State. She will then complete the remaining months of his tenure.
