After many months of political horse-trading, realignment, and Internal Party Crisis, Former Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has finally gotten his hands on a presidential ticket under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Obi emerged as the unopposed Presidential Candidate of the NDC yesterday, sending Nigerians into new levels of hope and anticipation. This development follows two unsuccessful attempts under the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which were thwarted by internal party crisis and litigation.
Peter Obi will be running for the Presidency under his new party with Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State, as a running mate. The ticket is a powerful realignment between Eastern Nigeria and Northern Nigeria, an alliance that once held power in Nigeria during the Shagari era.
The new political movement is causing serious headaches for the ruling party, which has become very unpopular amongst the Nigerian masses. Many political analysts believe that the Strategy for the Bola Tinubu-led APC was for Peter Obi not to be on the ballot box at all.
The NDC platform has defeated that game.
Nigerians Reacts

The news of Peter Obi getting the presidential ticket under the NDC set tongues wagging online. Many Nigerians expressed hope in the ticket and totally see it defeating Tinubu in 2027. Others praised the doggedness and political strategy of Peter Obi in maneuvering the pitfalls and mines set for him by the ruling party.
Infoeast snooped around and got some interesting reactions from the discus.
“THE MOMENT IS HERE! Peter Obi is now the Presidential Aspirant of the NDC for 2027. No drama. No godfathers. Just a man with proven competence, integrity, and the vision to fix Nigeria… This is our chance to rescue Nigeria from waste, insecurity, and bad leadership. A New Nigeria is Possible! Fon4gud tweeted.
“One thing I took from Peter Obi’s speech after getting his presidential ticket is ‘There will be screenings for everyone vying for a position in NDC.’ In other words, you have to be qualified to pass through that screening.” An Obedient supporter tweeted.
“Peter Obi is our political party. Our hope. And our direction. Wherever he goes, we go with him. Join the NDC today…” Another Obedient Supporter tweeted.
“Our Presidential Candidate… The time to work is NOW. Mobilization starts today… The goal is Aso Rock,” an X user tweeted.
The NDC was officially registered on February 5, 2026, alongside another new party. The party’s registration followed years of legal disputes dating back to its initial application in 2017.
