The executive Governor of Imo state and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, has welcomed a group of former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) members to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo state.
Uzodimma described the development as a win for his administration’s quest to align Imo State with the centre. He lauded the decampees for their patriotism to the state. and country.
” It was with great pleasure that I welcomed a distinguished group of Imolites, led by Evang. Mike Ikokwu, from the opposition party, the PDP, into our progressive family, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Their decision highlights a collective commitment to the greater good of our State, and we remain resolute in placing Imo firmly on the path of sustainable progress.” Uzodimma said.
” As I acknowledge the growing awareness among Ndi Imo of the imperative for unity, peace, and progress, it is evident that whatever is good must be embraced in the interest of all.
” We shall continue to align with national politics, drawing from the purposeful leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, whose administration consistently strengthens sustainable developmental goals for our nation.” He added.
Uzodimma’s Growing Profile in APC’s National Structure
Imo state is the oldest APC state in eastern nigerian following Uzodimma’s controversial ascent to power in 2019. The state opened the floor to the ruling party in a predominantly hostile region with strong PDP roots.
Aside from being the governor of Imo state, Uzodimma is an authority in the APC national structure. He serves as the chair of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and as a member of the national working committee.
Political analysts believe Uzodimma is in Pole position for the Vice Presidential Candidate position in 2031. They believe the Imo state governor is currently working towards this position. This is evidenced by his alignment with President Bola Tinubu.
Uzodimma’s Vice presidential ambition is being challenged by other interested parties. They include the current Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, and the current Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.
His ambitions hinge on the possibility of Tinubu winning reelection next year, which seems very likely at the moment.
