Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has toured the Imo Digital City site in Owerri, supervising his major investment in the digital economy for his home state.
Uzodimma, in the company of key stakeholders in Imo state’s tech ecosystem, toured the complex, assessing the level of work done as contractors applied finishing touches to the tech complex situated in the heart of Owerri.
In amateur footage obtained by Infoeast, the Imo Digital City complex appears to be 95% complete, as many of the buildings have already been completed and painted. The landscape is also tarred, and a tour of the facilities revealed a completed interior.
The Imo Digital City is a flagship initiative of the Uzodimma administration. It is aimed at promoting technology and jump-starting a robust digital economy in the state. The project, which is nearing completion, will host an entire hub. Startups, training facilities, co-working spaces, and digital infrastructure to drive innovation, skill development, and economic growth.
The tech and digital complex is already accepting partnerships. It is reportedly in talks with the indigenous mobile-making company Imose Mobile. The Imo Digital city is a thoughtful initiative that aligns with the large number of young people in the state.
Imo State is home to some 8 tertiary institutions. This leads to a high young demographic, a perfect recipe for a robust digital economy. Other tech initiatives from the Uzodimma administration include Skill Up Imo. The initiative which aims to train 20,000 youths in global tech skills.
Uzodimma believes that upskilling Imo youths with global tech skills is non-negotiable. This will help them secure roles in developed countries, which will do wonders for the state’s local economy.
