The Imo state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, called for robust support for traditional institutions in Nigeria towards sustainable growth and Cohesion in Society.
Speaking on Saturday at the 25th anniversary of the Chairman, Imo State and South East Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Dr. E. C. Okeke CFR, on the throne as Eze Udo II of Amaifeke, Uzodimma eulogised the monarch, paying tribute to his leadership, wisdom, and fatherly guidance.
The Imo state governor recalled that the positive attributes of the monarch contribute heavily and positively impact the development of the state. He sought God’s guidance for the monarch as he continues his reign as the traditional ruler of Amaifeke and the chairman of the Imo State and South East Council of Traditional Rulers.
Additionally, Uzodimma extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, for gracing the event. He stated that his presence through a representative is proof that his administration values culture and heritage.
The Uzodimma administration floats key policies and initiatives aimed at developing the state and building on the gains of his first term. The “Shared Prosperity” agenda focuses on infrastructural, digital innovation, and economic growth amidst other key development indices.
The administration earmarked a 2025 budget of N807 billion to target grand schemes like industrialization and rural road construction. The Imo State Electricity Distribution project aims to deliver 24/7 electricity in the state, contributing to the growth of the local economy.
Policies like the SkillUpImo program have trained 40,000 youths in AI and tech skills, while the Imo Charter of Equity promotes fair power rotation.
Uzodimma secured his second tenure following a landslide victory in the polls in 2023. The All Progressive Congress party man rode into power in 2019 following a controversial court judgment that upended the mandate of Emeka Ihedioha of the People’s Democratic Party.
