The Southeast Maths Competition and its Sponsors
The Southeast Maths Olympiad Competition is sponsored by the Educare Foundation, GSI Foundation, Intervention for South East Education, and Rumex Foundation.
The competition convener, Alex Onyia, believes the competition can revive interest in the mathematics subject in the region. It can also produce the next generation of STEM talent.
The preliminary competition was attended by 11,522 students across the five southeastern states. Imo, Anambra and Enugu had the highest number of participants. Abia state had the fewest contestants and the poorest score in the examination.
The results of the general olympiad maths quiz revealed gaps in maths across states, topics, and genders. The Southeast Maths Olympiad Competition is open to all students in the southeast region, regardless of ethnicity.
The grand finale of the maths competition held on March 7th would be broadcast on Afia TV (DSTV Channel 254, GOTV Channel 17, and FREE TV Channel 748).
The competition Convener stated that there are plans to make the competition an annual event. This will foster further educational development and awareness across the eastern region of Nigeria.
