The All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus in the Southeast of Nigeria held its Zonal Congress today to elect new officials to champion the affairs of the party in the region.
Present at the Zonal Congress held in Enugu were all ranking members of the APC in the eastern region. The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu, and the Governors of Imo, Ebonyi, and Enugu States were present alongside floor members of the ruling party.
Reacting to the successful Congress, Kalu thanked all participants while pointing out that the outcomes approved reflected the will of the party at the ward, local government, and state levels.
“Following the successful conduct of congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels, the outcomes were collectively adopted as a true reflection of the will of party members, with further resolution that the zonal congress would proceed through the consensus option, in line with Section 84(2) of the Electoral Act. I congratulate all newly elected zonal officials of the party. ” Kalu Said
“I also commend the five Governors of the Southeast for their commitment to the success of this congress. The seamless coordination, calm atmosphere, and orderliness witnessed throughout this process at every level speak to the unity and cohesion in our various states.” He added.
Kalu urged all members to prepare for the party’s national congress this weekend and show support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Concurrently, the Chief Host of the Event, Enugu Governor, Barrister Peter Mbah, noted that the turnout for the event is an indication of how solid the party is in the region.
“Despite the predictions of naysayers who expected our congresses to end in division, we have emerged stronger, more cohesive, and more determined than ever.” Mbah Said.
Mbah highlighted the resolve of the party to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of his Administration. The APC now has three states in the southeast following the defection of Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah, last year.
The Party remains largely unpopular in the region despite the efforts of the political class to sell it. The City Boys Movement is another offshoot attempt by the party to appeal to the region using its leading socialites.
The effect of such initiatives and their efficiency remains to be seen in the 2027 general elections.
