Students in the rural part of Enugu voluntarily participated in the National JAMB Readiness Assessment to assess their abilities and mock prepare for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Foremost Education Influencer and Convener of the South East Maths Olympiad, Alex Onyia, made the development public, noting that although the students’ performance was average, their intentions are very encouraging.

Onyia noticed that the students who stood for the assessment were mostly ill-equipped, lacking laptops and other modern educational resources.

” None of them could afford a laptop, but they were able to get phones and a supervisor for the assessment. Although none of them scored above 200/400 in the assessment, they confessed that it’s a great boost for them to study harder for the next round,” Onyia shared on X.

The development highlights passion and eagerness to learn among young people in the Southeast. This is also a sign of a thriving grassroots education in Enugu state.

JAMB Schedules Optional Mock UTME for March

The National JAMB Readiness Assessment, also known as JAMB Mock-UTME, is a simulated examination designed to measure a candidate’s preparedness for the actual Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This exercise has become more critical in recent years, following technical challenges faced by UTME candidates.

JAMB, the official exam body, has scheduled the official optional Mock-UTME for Saturday, March 28, 2026. The optional Mock-UTME exposes candidates to the exact CBT interface they will use during the main exam, hence preparing them for it.

Additional features for the 2026 UTME exams include a program for under-16 students who are gifted enough to take the exams. The program is a readiness tier test that facilitates an Intensive Eligibility Evaluation for students. To be considered for a waiver, students must score at least 80%.

JAMB is also accessing CBT centres through its CBT Readiness Monitoring program. The program is assessing the readiness of 848 accredited CBT centres nationwide. Centres that fail to meet the standard will be delisted.

    Registration & Costs

To participate in the official JAMB Mock, you must select the option during your initial registration.

    • UTME with Mock: ₦8,700 (This includes the ₦1,500 Mock service charge).
    • UTME without Mock: ₦7,200.

The JAMB Readiness Assessment organised by the students in rural enugu was a voluntary exercise and is not the official UTME mock scheduled for March. Enugu is noted for its educational prowess, housing important educational institutions.

The Peter Mbah administration, through its Smart Green School initiative, is looking to build on existing momentum by funding modern school infrastructure across 260 wards in the state.
