Governor Hope Uzodimma, on behalf of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), extended heartfelt congratulations to Prof Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda on his unanimous election as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Imo state Governor extoled the wealth of experience possessed by Nentawe across various sectors, having worked in academia, governance, technology, and public administration as a testament to the depth of leadership he brings into the critical role.
“As you assume this noble responsibility, we are confident you will work closely with our National Leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to steer the All Progressives Congress (APC) towards national unity, inclusive development, and sustainable growth. Uzodimma said.
Zoning Formula Restored
The election of Prof Nentawe restored the correct zoning formula, ceding the position to the North Central region of Nigeria. Before his election, the seat was occupied by Umar Ganduje, the former Governor of Kano State.
Ganduje’s time as the National Chairman of the APC stirred reactions and backlash from the North Central region, which felt shortchanged by the ruling party. The development caused rancor between the people of North West and North Central, threatening party harmony and bringing internal crisis in the party.
The ex-governor of Kano state recently resigned from the position of National Chairman following increased pressure. His resignation threw open the position for a new Chairman, who was subsequently filled by Nentawe, whom Governor Hope Uzodimma nominated.
Prof Nentawe, before his unanimous election, was serving as Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
He implemented relief programs, supported IDPs, and promoted climate-smart agriculture during his tenure. Previously, he was INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State (2017–2021) and APC’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Plateau State.
Nentawe is to resume work immediately, hitting the ground running as the ruling APC party prepares for the general elections in 2027.
