The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, would announce his official defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu today.
The former Labour Party stalwart is currently in Enugu alongside other dignitaries of the ADC party for his official declaration. Senator Victor Umeh, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, Emeka Ihedioha, and other top party politicians are present for the declaration.
Obi’s prospective declaration comes as a relief to his millions of followers, who were before now at a loss. The official declaration by Peter Obi for the ADC party lays to rest speculations on his political platform for 2027
Earlier reports confirmed that Awka, the capital of Anambra, was initially the choice location for the declaration. The Enugu option came as an afterthought and was considered because the city was the former capital of the old Eastern Region. Joining the ADC alongside Obi are Prof Pat Utomi and Ken Pela, two of Nigeria’s foremost politicians.
At the event, Dr Yunusa Tanko, Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, expressed the movement’s solidarity with their leader.
” As we take another bold step in Nation Building for the interest of the Nigerian people. H E has set the Agenda once again in Nigeria’s political history. We move together with the coalition under the African Democratic Congress, ADC,” says Tanko.
ADC Coalition Prepares for 2027
The ADC coalition is primarily composed of politicians who are disgruntled by the influence of the APC and the PDP. These politicians are banding together to form a united front and attempt to wrestle power from the APC in 2027.
Key stakeholders of the ADC party include Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Dr Bukola Saraki, Senator David Mark, Nasir El Rufai, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, and other fringe members.
Peter Obi’s defection to the party strengthens its national appeal and boosts the party’s chances of winning the 2027 presidential election.
