The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, hailed Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom, as a productive Nigerian and an outstanding entrepreneur on the occasion of the latter’s book launch event in Abuja.
The book “The Chronicles of a Legend” was launched in Abuja on Thursday, pulling dignitaries, especially the class of 1999 governors, and other top politicians and businessmen.
Obi lauded Igbinedion for showing that education can transform lives and uplift a nation through the founding of Igbinedion University Okada, the very first private university in Nigeria.

He reiterated that Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbenidion is a productive Nigerian, exemplary father, and outstanding businessman with a great passion for education, health, and productivity. He added that Igbinedion’s entrepreneurial spirit earned him several businesses that employ thousands of Nigerians, adding to the nation’s growth.
Obi urged Nigerians to celebrate people like Igbinedion for their immense contribution to the country, rather than showering honours on people who add little or no value to the growth of the nation.
He called for the proper recognition of the Esama of Benin while he is still alive by Nigerians for his contribution to the nation and unwavering patriotic service to the nation.
Finally, he called for God’s blessing on him and people like him who have contributed to building a better Nigeria through entrepreneurship and productivity.
Chief Igbinedion is a Nigerian businessman, philanthropist, and Esama of Benin Kingdom. He founded Igbinedion University, Okada, Nigeria’s first private university, in 1999. With over 7,000 students, the university offers accredited programs across seven colleges, producing notable graduates, including medical doctors.
His works of philanthropy include scholarships and support for youth empowerment, while his business empire spans aviation, banking, and hospitality. His son, Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion, governed Edo State from May 29, 1999, to May 29, 2007.
