Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, at the Invest Lagos 3.0, said his administration is working toward a future in which the state will no longer depend on the national electricity grid but will instead generate and manage its own power supply to ensure round-the-clock electricity across all parts of the state.
He made the remarks while speaking at Invest Lagos 3.0, an event hosted by the Lagos State Government.
He also expressed appreciation to Babajide Sanwo-Olu for inviting other states to the platform. Otti described the gesture as a rare show of openness that allows states to present their investment opportunities.
Otti noted that Lagos remains a major commercial hub in Nigeria. He also pointed out that its population density makes it necessary for other states to develop and attract investments.
He added that not all states can become megacities like Lagos. However, many can learn from its economic structure and development model.
On power supply, the governor explained that his administration is focused on controlling electricity generation and distribution within Abia.
He said reliable power is central to industrial growth because a large share of manufacturing costs is tied to energy.
He further revealed that an investor who owns a steel plant had shown interest in relocating to Abia. This is due to the promise of stable electricity in the state.
According to him, a large expanse of land has already been set aside in the Geometric area. This is to support such industrial investments as part of the state’s broader economic plans. The Invest Lagos 3.0 event featured speakers from across Nigeria’s states and ministries.
The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwoolu; the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; the governor of Nasarawa State, Engr Abdullahi Sule; the governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti; and the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, gave speeches at the event.
The Invest Lagos 3.0 is an annual event in Lagos state. Here, key figures and state governors pitch investment opportunities to the Lagos community in their respective states. This year’s edition is the third and is on its final day as of this reporting.
