Former Minister of Information, Chief Frank Nweke Jr., has dismissed opposition figures ahead of the 2027 Enugu State governorship election, saying they pose no serious challenge to Governor Peter Mbah.
Nweke made the remark during a thank-you visit by the people of Ozalla Community in Nkanu West Local Government Area to the governor’s country home in Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area, where the community also endorsed Mbah for a second term.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Nweke said the governor’s growing support across the state was a result of his performance and delivery of projects.
He added that the opposition lacked the strength to threaten Mbah’s chances in the next election.
According to him, the people of Ozalla are standing firmly behind the governor because of the visible impact of his administration on the community and other parts of Enugu State.
Nweke said Ozalla had witnessed more government presence under Mbah than it had under several previous administrations.
He pointed to infrastructure projects and strategic appointments given to sons and daughters of the community as evidence of the governor’s commitment to development.
He also described the nomination of Dr. Kingsley Tochi Udeh, SAN, as Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology as a major honour for the community.
The former minister said the endorsement of Mbah for a second term was based on appreciation for his achievements and confidence in his leadership.
Earlier, the President General of the Ozalla Development Union, Chief Obiora Okwuibe, announced the community’s support for the governor’s re-election in 2027.
He said the community would mobilise voters and work towards delivering overwhelming support for Mbah during the election.
Okwuibe also praised the governor for projects carried out in the area, including the Smart Green School, the ongoing Type II Primary Healthcare Centre, the renovation of the old Ozalla Health Centre, and the Ituku–Ishi Ozalla road project.
The community leader, however, appealed to the governor to address the poor condition of internal roads linking villages, autonomous communities, and farmlands within Ozalla.
