The Onitsha Twitter Community is set to host a Voter Awareness Initiative ahead of next year’s general elections.
The Initiative titled PVC Hangout will enable prospective voters to obtain their Permanent Voters Card, raise overall awareness of the upcoming elections, and prepare people to participate and exercise their civic rights.
The event is scheduled for July 19 at 9 am prompt and will run until 4 pm. The Venue for the event is the Gathering Tent, Opposite Nepa GRA. The initiative aims to address the perennial low voter turnout in southeastern states.
Former Anambra gubernatorial candidate George Moghalu, during last year’s gubernatorial elections, lamented the poor PVC collection rate and voter turnout in the state over the years.
He urged Ndi Anambra to stand up and be counted by registering to collect their Voter’s cards and by exercising their civic rights by going to the polls.
“I sincerely urge every eligible voter who registered, transferred, or applied for a replacement to take advantage of this window to collect their PVCs. Remember, your PVC is your power, your voice, and your right to shape the future of our beloved Anambra State.” Moghalu Said
The 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections are slated for January 16, the first month of the year. The country’s electoral umpire, INEC, is under new management and will seek to restore its battered image by ensuring a fair election.
INEC originally set the elections for February 20, 2027, but revised the timetable after the new Electoral Act.
